2 Printing in Europe Once the Printing Press was invented in 1450, things began to happen. By 1476, England had its first printing press. By 1490, every major European city had its own printing press.

3 The first news reports The earliest newspapers were small news pamphlets produced only when some event worthy of notice occurred.

4 Oldest surviving news report In 1541, Juan Rodriguez wrote a news story about an earthquake in Guatemala. The story covered eight pages and was folded into a small book.

5 The first NEWSpaper In 1702, The Daily Courant was published in London. It was a very unusual newspaper for its time because: 1. It only published factual stories 2. It contained no opinion stories 3. Every story was dated 4. It was a one-page paper. The news was on one side, the ads were on the other
