What you said last time 36 YEAR 5 LEARNERS said they thought they knew really well the skills and knowledge relating to: How to select secure passwords Their rights as to how be safe and happy online The fact that they knew that everything they put on the internet could be seen by others They could choose appropriate tools to communicate with others They respected the respect they had for other users of the internet They knew that the information they shared might have an impact on others That there was inaccurate information online That they should ask their friends before the used things they have created in their work

Y5 expressed a weakness in skills and knowledge relating to: Why some people present unreliable information online How to protect themselves against virus threats Knowledge of how the author of a website targets their audience How they can acknowledge the source of materials

YEAR 8 LEARNERS Said they thought they knew really well the skills and knowledge relating to: The impact that cyber-bullying can have How cyber bullying can take place How to stay safe on a social network Why they needed different passwords How to block comments that made them feel uncomfortable Explaining the difference between fact and opinion

One school did a survey and found the following Year 3 and 4 4/22 on facebook ¼ of class have their own DSi, Ipods/ phones with internet access 21/22 parents trust their children to use the internet safely 18/22 use a social networking site 6/22 have a personal filter 15/27 play games and do talk to someone they don’t know
