3 What does this mean for the city region? Visitors spend an estimated £3.4bn every year, and supports 46,000 jobs. The Visitor Economy is set to increase so that by 2020 annual spend of £4.2 billion will be achieved, supporting the creation of 13,000 new jobs The money coming into the region from tourism feeds back into our local economy and stimulates new business opportunities, investment and regeneration. To prepare our workforce for the opportunities both today and tomorrow, we need to have the right skills, and an awareness of how important tourism is to our economy

4 City Region WorldHost is a high quality training package which was used to train Olympics volunteers in 2012 It’s managed by People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for hospitality, retail and passenger transport Venues and businesses can become “WorldHost” accredited – Liverpool Airport will be doing this Several funding bids are in place to make this free to employers, including Skills for Growth Bank and ESF. We have set ourselves the target to become the first british “WordHost City Region” training 3,500 people by July 2014.

5 WorldHost Delivery Delivered by a network of 20 quality assured training providers High profile businesses are adopting the training, including: – Hotels and guest houses – Rail services – Bus companies – Conference venues – Liverpool Airport and airport partners – Tourist Information – Merseytravel – Retailers – and many more!

6 Volunteers Approx. 700 WorldHost trained volunteers will support the International Festival for Business A further 100 will support Pride Another 400+ will support the Giants in July For info on the role and to join up contact http://www.ifb2014.com/ Volunteers will support the events, signpost visitors, give information, and help manage venues. They give their time without payment to help the events and gain experience and skills.
