Foundation Stage Total Foundation Points are down slightly this year from 89.8 (2007) to 89.1 (2008). However figures are still above the national average for 2008 – 85.7. NI 72 (78 Points and 6+ PSE&CLL) Beds 50, Nat 49 NI 92 (Achievement gap) Beds 35.5, national 35.6

Key Stage 1(Level 2 and above) –Reading = 89.4%. Bedfordshire is second out of the ten statistical neighbours. –Writing has increased by nearly 1% to 87.7%. Bedfordshire is first out of the ten statistical neighbours. –Mathematics = 93.3%. Bedfordshire is first out of the ten statistical neighbours.

Provisional Key Stage 2 Results The percentage of pupils attaining Level 4 and above in English has improved in 2008 (81.3%) compared with 2007 (80.6%) - broadly in line with the national figure. Bedfordshire is eighth out of the ten statistical neighbours in English for pupils achieving level 4 and above. The percentage of pupils attaining Level 4 and above in mathematics has improved in 2008 (77.8%) compared with 2007 (76.1%). Bedfordshire is at the national figure. Bedfordshire is seventh out of the ten statistical neighbours in mathematics for pupils achieving level 4 and above. The 2008 results for English and mathematics at level 4 are the highest for Bedfordshire to date.

Provisional Key Stage 3 Analysis These results must be treated with extreme caution English has slipped back after last year’s gains Both maths and science have moved ahead of the National Average at Level 5+ The problems at Level 6 in science in 2007 have been rectified with a 3.5% improvement. Middle schools, where pupils were entered for Key Stage 3 in Year 8,achieved some very impressive results at both Level 5 and 6

Provisional Key Stage 4 Analysis All results are very provisional at this stage The Local Authority has made progress this year in both categories, 5A*to C and 5A* to C including English and maths Schools achieved some outstanding results this year, particularly in the 5A* to C The Local Authority Target of 63% 5A* to C has been met Many more schools are achieving or getting close to their FFT estimates
