2. ENTERTAINMENT Upon recovering from World War II, authors like Norman Vincent Peale, and Bishop Fulton J Sheen became increasingly popular due to their upbeat true American value books, because America’s newfound upbeat and proud behavior from winning the war. Science fiction also became increasingly popular due to the technological advances in space. Classics like the book iRobot were written in this time depicting a futuristic life. Classics like I Love Lucy and Lassie were developed in this time exhibiting the “perfect life.”

3. TECHNOLOGY Transcontinental television was developed in 1951. In 1954 black and white television was developed into color television. The Space Race began and was in full swing, launching the U.S.’s first successful satellite into orbit. The first development of computers were starting the show. Electric portable sewing machines were invented.

4. HOME LIFE More and more families were bringing a television into their homes, the amount of television the children watched increased greatly beginning 1951. The typical family in the 1950s portrayed a mother who stayed home and watched the children, cooking and cleaning, a father who went to work with a smile on his face, and children who behaved, always minding their parents.

5. SCHOOL During the 1950s wild changes had been made to the educational system. Separate but equal was lifted from schools integrating children. An emphasis on math and science was placed and encouraged in 1950s schools. However, certain book such as Why cant Johnny Read, warned about the problems in the school system.
