Listening: the key to communication. The aim is to promote the development of understanding and trust.

Listening for more than the presenting problem. Be on the lookout for the deeper issues.

Listening for the story of the baby. Every mother and baby have a unique story. Help to ventilate the story of the baby.

Listening to the parent’s past. Hearing the mother’s cry.

What to do about it. Listening for “negative” communication.

Look for non-verbal communication. The emotional communication.
