5. CAUSES OF WRINKLES
With age, the number of collagen fibers and elastin, blood vessels and cells of the superficial layer divide themselves once every 50 days instead of 28 during the youth. The skin becomes thinner, the hydration and lipid levels decrease, which induces wrinkles and lines. Upon exposure to UV rays the skin produces melanin to protect the cells. With aging, the melanocytes generate increased melanin, causing what is called age spots (Letigines senile, Letigines solaris).
