3  Words……  Symbols  When you divide each side of an equation by the same nonzero number, the two sides remain equal.  For any number a, b, c, where c 0, then a/c = b/c

4  Example:  3x= -12  3 3  X= -4 Divide the left side of the equation by 3 to undo the multiplication 3 x Divide the right side, by the same (3), to balance.
