1 Run On Sentences

2 A run-on sentence is two or more sentences that are incorrectly written as one sentence. The length of the sentence has nothing to do with it being a run-on sentence. Run-on sentences may be more than one sentence written as one without end marks, OR a run-on may be more than one sentence joined with commas.

3 Run-on Examples The states didn’t agree on the amount of representatives the big states wanted more votes because they had more people.

6 There are three methods for correcting run-on sentences.

33 3.  The third method for correcting run-on sentences is joining the two short related sentences with a semicolon. Use a semicolon to join sentences when the ideas are closely connected and need no transition word to explain the connection between them. The semicolon, as used here, is similar to using a period. ;
