“What is a hurricane?” Hurricane- A violent storm of the western North Atlantic having wind speeds of 72 mph

“How do hurricanes form?” Hurricanes form with ocean water with a temp. of 80˚ or more. The wind also must be blowing together.

“Where do hurricanes occur? Can they occur in different parts of the world?” Hurricanes occur mainly in large areas of warm water. It is possible for hurricanes to occur in other areas. As long as there is warm water. To the left is a picture of hurricane Katrina from space.

“What are some precautions a person can take if one of these disasters occurs?” Good Things To Do: Contact vets, board up windows,get evacuation routes,stock up on supplies like batteries, food, water,flashlights, etc. Also, it is good to fill your cars with gas and to get cash. “How can you stay safe during a natural disaster?” If you are warned ahead of time, evacuate or make sure if something happens, you will be safe. If you have no warning, stay alert with radio advisories and make sure loose items are secure. Bring all important items and alert your family and friends of your departure and where you will be going. If you are staying in your house, make sure you have enough food for 7 days. Find a safe area in your home and make sure you have a gallon of water for each family member for 7 days.

Sandy Information Where did it happen? Hurricane Sandy hit the United States East Coast. What Happened? Hurricane Sandy wrecked the East Coast in October 2012. Sandy destroyed houses, demolished neighborhoods, and left most of the New York/ New Jersey/ Conneticut area a demolished mess. What is the cost in damage? The cost of damage totals 71 billion dollars. Where did it happen? Hurricane Sandy hit the United States East Coast. What Happened? Hurricane Sandy wrecked the East Coast in October 2012.
