UNIT 2

Heel Strike Punching motion Hand position o Hyperextend the wrist and lead with the heel of the hand. o Pull fingers back and press the thumb against the palm to avoid finger injuries. Strikes – All of the strikes use the same motion as the punch. The only difference in the strikes is the hand position of the strike. Web Strike (causes attacker to either gag or bruises or collapses the attacker’s windpipe). Punching motion Hand position o Separate the thumb and fingers (as if holding a glass and to make a toast). o Stiffen the entire hand on contact. When students practice this release, have one partner hold up his/her forearm and have the defender perform the web strike around the forearm.

Eye Gouge (The students should be informed that this strike should be done only as a last resort). Punching motion Hand position o Hand should be open and rounded as if the person was holding a grapefruit. o Stiffen the entire hand on contact. o The thumb and little finger anchor strike by digging into the cheek or jaw and the other fingers penetrate as far as possible into eye socket. When students practice this release, have one partner hold up his/her fist and have the defender perform the eye gouge around the fist.

Body Targets - Vulnerable Areas of the Body Front Knees Shins Instep Back Side of knees Back of knees Front Solar Plexus Upper Abdomen Lower Abdomen Floating Rib Groin Back Spine Kidneys Front Temples Eyes Nose Chin Jaw Throat Side of Neck Back Base of skull Head Area Trunk Area Lower Body

Two Hand Wrist grab - Attacker grabs the defender by two hands on the one of the defenders wrists. Steps of the release o Assume a defensive stance. c The defender hits the attacker in the face with a heel strike. o After the strike, the defender makes a fist with the trapped hand and reaches across the top of the attackers hands and grabs his/her own fist. o The defender pulls the trapped hand across the body. o The defender follows the release with a side kick. Cues: Hit, rip and kick.

More Wrists Release - Attacker grabs the defender by two hands on the both of the defender’s wrists. The defender’s wrists are above the head. Steps of the release o Assume a defensive stance. o The defender kicks the attacker and then either moves the arms in a Y or W motion. o A Y motion is done by pulling both hands together and forcefully downward. o A W motion is pushing hands away, down and then together. Cues: Kick then Y or W.
