WHICH UNIQUE ID SYSTEM IS YOUR ORGANIZATION USING? Answer: The Kenya Identification System Comprising of: Provincial Administration Vetting Committees Registration officer Production Centre Finger prints ID number Civil status data Application number Field

HOW IS THE UNIQUE NUMBER ASSISGNED TO THE SYSTEM? ANSWER: The identification number is currently a serialized number with no probability of duplication.

WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE SYSTEM YOU ARE USING? ANSWER: Strengths: No possibility of duplicating the identity card number The number is linked to civil data, face, fingerprint and the application Weaknesses: Old generation identity card numbers that were duplicated Processes that are partly manual No family tree in the system No parents and husbands names in 1 st generation records

WHAT ELECTRONIC SYSTEM ARE YOU USING? ANSWER: A 3 tier client architecture with: Identification subsystem AFIS subsystem (Automated fingerprint identification system) Production system Alien subsystem All interconnected to a LAN

DOES THE SYSTEM HAVE A LINK WITH OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS? ANSWER: Yes but only the fathers, mothers and husbands name. Clan and family names are also indicated.

HOW DO YOU PREVENT DUPLICATION OF CLIENTS INFORMATION? ANSWER: Finger print classification and identity card numbers assignment. You cannot avoid duplication of names.

HOW DO YOU AVOID MULTIPLE ASSIGNMENT OF UNIQUE IDS? ANSWER: The system generates a sequential number.

HOW DO YOU PREVENT FRAUD? ANSWER: Through AFIS Vetting committees A database for all refugees and aliens Database for all registered Kenyans

WAY FORWARD Introduction of a 3 rd generation Card with computerized processes. Enrolment will be done online Stakeholders will be connected to our database but only for the relevant information Introduction of a family tree Clean up current data Introduction of a unique intelligent number for NPRs Some information will be embedded in the ID/Card
