Today we are going to learn about setting. Setting is where and when a story takes place. A story can happen in a real or make-believe place. It can happen now, long ago, or in the future. For example, the story “Little Red Riding Hood”, takes place in a forest. Clues in the story tell me what the setting is. There are trees all around as Little Red Riding Hood walks to Grandma’s. The wolf comes out from the trees. The wolf hurries ahead to Grandma’s, but Little Red Riding Hood doesn’t see where he goes because the trees hide him. These clues tell me they are in a forest. Listen to this story: Once there was a group of first graders. The teacher helped them learn about letters and sounds and stories. The reading books had lots of fun stories. Soon, the first graders could read! The teacher was very proud! Where does this story take place? What clues help you figure out the setting?
