Chapter 10 Section 1, 3-4

Warm-Up List the data in order from least to greatest. 1.) 23, 45, 61, 87, 91, 16, 22, 52 2.) 4.1, 4.2, 4.13, 4.15, 4.3 3.) 132, 116, 108, 191, 125, 132 4.) 7.25, 7.3, 7.08, 7.9, 7.62

Warm-Up 2 List the data in order from least to greatest. 1.) 32, 31, 34, 30, 13, 33 2.) 121, 119, 137, 125, 129 3.) 11.1, 10.9, 11.3, 11.5, 10.2 4.) -4, -5, 0, -1, 2, -3

Notes A frequency table is a table that lists each item in a data set with the number of times the item occurs A line plot is a graph that shows the shape of a data set by stacking X’s above each data value on a number line A histogram is a bar graph with not spaces between the bars

Example(s) Make a frequency table of each set of data. 1.) tickets sold per day 4548515350464650 51484645504946

Example(s) Make a frequency table of each set of data. 2.) ages of students 131214121112131411 1313141112121311

Example(s) Make a line plot of each set of data. 3.) number of plants sold per person 510118711986 67121010987

Warm-Up Find the median of each set of data. 1.) 24, 42, 51, 25, 63 2.) 38, 30, 26, 20, 32, 48 3.) 2.1, 3.2, 4.8, 5.6, 3.1, 2.6 4.) 5.8, 6.9, 7.4, 3.9, 6.4

Chapter 11 Section 3 Notes A stem-and-leaf plot is a graph that uses the digits of each number to show the shape of the data A box-and-whisker plot is a graph that summarizes a data set along a number line

Steps for making a stem-and-leaf plot Step 1: Choose the stems. The stems are made using the values in the ones place Step 2: Find the leaves. The leaves are the values in the tenth place. ***i.e. Using the number 23, 2 would be the stem and 3 would be the leaf Step 3: Order the leaves from least to greatest. A key explains what your stems and leaves represent. Add a title.

Example Ex. 1) Draw a stem-and-leaf plot for the heights of giant sunflowers. 98 99 94 87 83 74 69 88 78 99 100 87 77

Steps for making a box-and-whisker plot Step 1: Order the data from least to greatest Step 2: Find the middle quartile by finding the median of the entire data set.(The median divides the data into two parts Step 3: Find the lower quartile by finding the median of the lower parts Step 4: Find the upper quartile by finding the median of the upper parts Step 5: Find the lowest and highest value of the data set

Example Ex. 2) Make a box-and-whisker plot for each set of data. Number of customers at a coffee house 2 5 3 7 7 8 10 8 14 15 14 15 12 10 10 8 9 7 8 5 2 5 4 3
