3 How Does Lightning Work? When positive(+) charges form at the top of the cloud and negative(-) charges form at the bottom of the cloud there are also some positive charges on the ground. When the – charge in the cloud tries to connect with + charges on the ground it sends a - streamer down and + send a streamer up. When they meet, lightning forms in the sky!

4 Some unlucky people that got struck by lightning 27 people have died this year 224 have been injured this year In AL there have been 2 dead and 14 injured in 2010

5 Ways to avoid getting struck by lightning Lightning will most likely strike trees, poles and water. To get away from lightning you need to find shelter. Once you get inside, You should stay away from TVs, microwaves, computers and anything that uses electricity.
