Presentation on theme: "Mean, Median, Mode, and Range. Mean Mean: Average 1)First, order the numbers from least to greatest. 2)Next, add the numbers in the data set. 3)Then,"— Presentation transcript:

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range

Mean Mean: Average 1)First, order the numbers from least to greatest. 2)Next, add the numbers in the data set. 3)Then, divide the sum by the number of numbers in the set.

5, 7, 3, 5, 5 1)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 2)3 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 7 = 25 3)25 / 5 = 5 Mean = 5

Median Median: Middle number when numbers are ordered from least to greatest. 1)First, put numbers in order from least to greatest. 2)Then, cross out the end numbers until you get to the middle. 3)If there are two middle numbers, add them and divide by 2 to find the average.

5, 7, 3, 5, 5 1)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 2)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 3)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 Median = 5

Mode Mode : Number that appears the MOST. 1)First, put the numbers in order from least to greatest. 2)Then, find the number that appears the most often.

5, 7, 3, 5, 5 1)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 2)5 appears three times Mode = 5

Range Range: Difference between the biggest and smallest number. *Subtract smallest from the biggest number in a data set. 1)First, put the numbers in order from least to greatest. 2)Then, take the biggest number and minus the smallest number.

5, 7, 3, 5, 5 1)3, 5, 5, 5, 7 2)7 – 3 = 4 Range = 4
