2  1. Health issues- illness, poor nutrition, not enough exercise or sleep  2. Substance abuse – the use of illegal drugs of the misuse of legal drugs  3. Addictions (examples: Internet, shopping, eating) - a physical or mental dependence on continued doses of a substance.

3  1. Abuse- behavior that threaten the mental health of another person; often directed by a family member against a child, spouse, or elderly family member.  2. Dependency issues- lack of independence or self-sufficiency  3. Depression – an emotional disorder characterized by prolonged periods of sadness, hopelessness, lack of energy, and inability to enjoy life.  4. Eating disorders –extreme eating behavior that can lead to serious health problems and even death (anorexia and bulimia)  5. Suicide prevention – signs that someone may be considering suicide include depression, as well as extreme mood swings, giving away favorite possessions, and talked of death or killing oneself. Someone who shows any of these signs needs help.

4  1. Lack of social opportunities- because of either time, money or other resources.  2. Living environments – safe housing and communities.  3. Socioeconomic status - a measure of an individual’s place within a social group based on various factors, including income and education  Limited resources- Money, time and family support, education and community resources.

5  You can do your part to reduce the amount of garbage in the environment by pre-recycling (is a way of conserving resources before you use them.), reusing, and recycling materials.  1. Air- how can we keep air clean? Air pollution can come from aerosol sprays, combustion of fuels and exhaust from motor vehicles.  2. Industry – release chemicals into the air, dump waste into water supplies.  3. Land- landfills, loss of rainforests which causes a loss of oxygen.  4. Water- cleanup and prevention of waste dumped into streams and rivers.

6  1. Criminal acts - A crime in a broad sense is an act that violates a political or moral law. In the narrow sense, a crime is a violation of the criminal law.  2. Family issues – divorce, custody, abuse, etc.  3. Truancy – skipping school
