A word that expresses action. Example: Run, jump, write, walk, etc. The boy walked home from school with his friend Sally.

Examples: is, are, was, were, am, be, and being. The girls are at school today. I am in the third grade.

AA person, animal, or imaginary creature that carries out the action of the plot. EExample: In the story “Cinderella”, some of the characters would be the evil step-mother, Cinderella, and the two step-sisters. CHARACTER

WWords with opposite meanings. EExample: Run:walk, hot:cold, right:wrong, old:young, girl:boy

Words that have several meanings depending upon how they are used in a sentence. Examples: shot, track, post, pet, etc. The player made the shot and got two points for her team. Cody’s mom was taking him to the doctor to get a shot school.

FForm of nouns and pronouns that shows ownership. UUse an apostrophe before the ‘S’ with singular nouns, and an apostrophe after the ‘S’ with plural nouns. EExample: BBilly’s hat LLadies’ restroom

Lines grouped together to form a division of a poem, separated from other lines by space. Example: II have a dog. His name is Fred. HHe won't play fetch. HHe won't play dead. HHe won't shake hands oor sit or stay or bark or beg or run and play. HHe won't roll over, sshake or crawl. This is one stanza.
