Choosing the correct distance is important How close do you want the subject and viewer to be? What do you want the viewer to see or pay attention to? What isn’t needed in the photo?

Extreme long shot: ELS Close up : CU Long shot: LS Extreme close up : ECU Medium shot: MS

Extreme long shot: the subject and its vast context are necessary

Long shot: seeing the whole subject and some background is needed

Medium shot: whole subject is not needed – but some context and more detail is required

Close up: detail needed but background context is not

Extreme close up: precise detail needed – creates intensity

Also, decide what detail or texture is needed and what feeling you want to create Then, choose the correct distance.
