2 How is pH measured? Concentration of hydrogen (H+) ions in a solution. “pH” = the power of Hydrogen Litmus paper = measures the pH

3 What is the range on the pH scale for ACIDS?  Substances with a pH 6 and below.  Lower the number, stronger the acid.

4 What is the range on the pH scale for BASES?  Substances with a pH of 8 and above.  Higher the number, stronger the base.

5 What is a substance considered to be if it is neither an acid or a base?  pH around 7 (neutral)  Example: “pure water”

6 What is the difference between the numbers on the pH scale? There is a 10-fold difference.

7 What does the negative exponent indicate?  That the number is less than one.
