When is the iLEAP Test? The 2013-14 iLEAP Test will take place Monday, April 7 through Thursday, April 10. Please make every effort to have your child at school on time on these days. Please do not schedule any doctor’s appointments during testing days.

How are the scores used? State and Schools: Determine amount of funding for school Compare schools’ academic growth in newspaper Plan for Teacher Professional Development Teachers: Identify students for gifted screening Identify students for remediation Prepare lessons based on strengths and weaknesses Planning Whole Faculty Study Groups

Interpreting Test Results 5 Levels of Achievement Advanced: demonstrates superior performance beyond the level of mastery Mastery: demonstrates competency over challenging subject matter and is well prepared for the next level of schooling Basic: demonstrates only the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling Approaching Basic: only partially demonstrates the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling Unsatisfactory: has not demonstrated the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling

The Night Before Testing Go to bed early and get a good night’s rest Solve family/friend problems before the testing date Keep a positive attitude Talk to child about any concerns that they might have about the test

The Day of Testing Eat a healthy breakfast Encourage your child to do their very best Think positively Help your child relax Arrive at school on time

Testing Strategies Listen and follow all directions Read the question and all answer choices before marking anything. Don’t spend too much time on any one question. Do your best and then move on. Answer the easiest questions first, but be sure to go back to those questions you skipped.

Testing Strategies, cont’d Do not change your answers unless you are very uncertain about your first answer choice. Try to answer every question. Make the most intelligent guess you can. After you have been through all of the questions once, go back and find questions you have some knowledge about and eliminate choices that you know are incorrect.

Testing Strategies, cont’d Find key words or phrases in the question that will help you choose the correct answer. If you can eliminate two wrong answers, your chance of choosing the right answer is greater. If you finish early, check to make sure you have answered all questions.

Final Tips Fill in bubbles fully, write neatly, and erase stray marks. Double-check the test number in your test booklet against the answer sheet every few questions to be sure you haven’t gotten on the wrong number.

Tuesday, April 8 ~ English Language Arts Part 1: Writing Students will be expected to read one or two passages and then write a composition that includes evidence from the text(s) in the response. The writing prompt may direct students to write a story, explain something, or give their opinion. (approx. 45 minutes). Part 2: Using Information Resources Students will have to answer questions by examining various reference sources (i.e. dictionary entries, table of contents, copyright pages, encyclopedia, etc.) (approx. 40 minutes).
