African Proverbs Prverbs

A proverb is a wise saying, or advice about life, that is handed down from generation to generation. Some English proverbs you may have heard are: Better safe than sorry. Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Every cloud has a silver lining. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

The African people have their own set of proverbs. They often speak these proverbs to their children to teach them lessons about life. For this week’s project we will learn some African proverbs. You will choose one of these proverbs and tell what you think it means. Then you will draw a picture that shows what the proverb is saying. Here are some examples:

There is no medicine to cure hatred.

It takes a village to raise a child.

No matter how long the night, day is sure to come.
