2 Introductions Ms. Darneise Massey, Principal Ms. Gwen D. Roulhac, School Counselor SSOE Families

3 SSOE Mission Statement Southern School of Engineering will provide each student with the physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills they need to compete in a 21 st century global society.

4 Goal Setting Set a goal. Make a plan. Check in to see how things are going. Revise the plan, if necessary. Celebrate achievements along the way.

5 Goals... Class of 2015 Make the Honor Roll Be inducted into NHS Finish all my homework at home Pass all EOCs Make real friends Study a lot more Try not to procrastinate Get better at math Complete high school and go on to college Be in class on time Keep a positive attitude Make the basketball team Balance my time with school work and having fun

6 Engage in meaningful activities... but not too many! One or two extra-curricular activities is enough during the first year of high school.

8 Future-Ready Core Graduation Requirements English I, II, III, IV World History, Civics & Economics, US History Earth/Environmental Science, Biology, Physical Science course (Physics or Chemistry or Physical Science) Health/PE

9 Future-Ready Core Graduation Requirements Subject Area SSOE RequirementsOptions (outside SSOE) Math 4 credits: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and higher level math course 4 credits: Algebra 1, Geometry and 2 application-based math courses World Language 2 credits of same language required by UNC system and most colleges/universities Not required for high school graduation Career/Arts/Academic Concentration Engineering concentration that consists of 4 courses, one of which must be advanced level 4 courses in Art, JROTC, PE, CTE Cluster, or academic elective area in English, Math, Science, Social Studies or World Language

10 Future-Ready Core Graduation Requirements 2 credits in any combination of: World Language CTE Cluster Arts Education Additional elective credits for a total of 28 credits
