2 SSR AGENDA  [10 min] Sustained Silent Reading: Can a book answer a question you didn’t know you had?  Review norms—expectations that you are reading 2 hours a week at home, response in writer’s note book that should be kept in this room, recording pages read/setting goals, and conferring with teacher about your reading life.  You may read your choice OR To Kill a Mockingbird.  In your note book, finish this sentence: After reading ____pages, I was reminded of____.  [2 min] Book Talk  Record book on our “Book Talk” list and remember the book goes on the shelf tomorrow

3 UNDERSTANDING CHARACTERS—FILL IN HANDOUT  Characters experience varying amounts of change over the course of a story. Two types of characters are:  STATIC characters that do not experience basic character changes during the course of the story.  DYNAMIC characters that experience changes throughout the plot of a story.  Although the change may be sudden, it is expected based on the story’s events.

4 APPLYING CHARACTERIZATION  [10 min] Character Circle Maps  Get out your circle maps for Scout and Boo Radley (Maycomb is not a character).  What other major characters should we make circle maps for?  Make predictions based on the information we have so far. Where do you think they will fit? Static or dynamic? Why?

5 ANALYZING THE STORY—CHAPTER 8 FOCUS  [8 min] Reading excerpt from To Kill a Mockingbird on handout  T2T  Use focus questions:  What theme is reflected in this section of the story and why/how?  **Examples must be quoted using MLA format. “Words” (Lee #).

6 CONNECTIONS  [5 min] Exit Pass  Trade your paper with someone at your table.  Check that they have followed the structure correctly. There should be an inference, a quote to prove the point, and an explanation of the quote.  Sign your name if the person has met all requirements.  Return to owner. Double check response and turn in the blue box.
