Three Year Review Clinician Scientist/Scientist – Expectations (research) Reviewed on performance since appointment PI in an established research program Holds as PI at least one peer-reviewed grant ≥ 2 peer-reviewed manuscripts per year as 1 st or senior author (≥ 6 total)

Three Year Review Clinician Investigator – Expectations (research) PI in research program Holds as PI at least one peer-reviewed grant or major industry grant ≥ 1 peer-reviewed manuscript per year as 1 st or senior author (≥ 3 total)

Three Year Review Clinician Scientist or Investigator – Expectations (teaching - quantity) Teaching only in the context of clinical cases is not sufficient Other teaching may vary depending on the nature of research and clinical work Graduate student teaching or member of thesis committee Centrally scheduled undergraduate teaching and examinations Supervision of learner research projects Formally assigned teaching in the Faculty of Arts and Science Teaching at the continuing education levels

Three Year Review Clinician Scientist/Scientist – Application Tips Cover letter should highlight your achievements and future goals in research – a focused research program is an asset Opportunity to outline any impediments to success – such as protected time, research environment, mentorship, financial support Funding Very important that your role in grants defined If unsuccessful – indicate applications submitted Publications Outline clearly how you contributed to the publication (especially important if publishing with previous supervisor)

Three Year Review Clinician Investigator – Application Tips Judged on the strength of your clinical program and your research success Cover letter should highlight your achievements and future goals in research – a focused clinical/research program is an asset Outline any impediments to success – eg. cohorts, database problems Funding Very important that your role in grants defined – especially important for industry funded grants and research contracts Some evidence of intellectual contribution to grant process is required

Three Year Review Clinician Educator – Expectations (teaching - quantity) Major time commitment to teaching and educational leadership/administration and/or research in education (CPA) Expected benchmarks - quantity Teach in centrally scheduled/evaluated UG and PG teaching - most Teach at continuing education or faculty development level – most Supervise projects (research, scholarship, patient safety etc.) – some Participation in PG academic half-day or other educational programs

Three Year Review Clinician Educator – Expectations (research) CE focusing on education research major must engage in research activity Apply for peer-reviewed funding Conduct scholarly activities such as research in education, innovation, implementation, or sustainability of educational programs Disseminate their work

Three Year Review Clinician Teacher – Expectations (teaching – quantity) Teach or supervise UG and PG trainees during most of their inpatient and ambulatory clinic activities Involved in centrally scheduled UG teaching – eg. ASCM, PBL, DOCH, etc. Involved in evaluation of trainees Engagement in some faculty development of skill acquisition related to teaching/education (eg. curriculum development, mentoring, educational leadership, attendance at education meetings) Participation in PG academic half-day

Three Year Review Clinician in Quality and Innovation – Expectations (improvement/innovation activities) Significant engagement in improvement, translational, or innovation activities Piloting new models of chare, innovations, or implementing established QI interventions Must maintain a formal CPA dossier to document and reflect on their activities and impact on patient care Expect to carry out activities in a scholarly way with ongoing evaluation of the impact of their work on clinical practice
