Praying in Tongues – A Revelation Gift
Why Did Paul say this: “I thank my God, I pray in tongues more than you all?” – 1 Cor.14:18 And why would he do that, anyway?

God’s Desire Is For You To Receive His Kingdom
Matthew 22:14 – For many are called, but few are chosen. Romans 2:11 – For there is no respect of persons with God Luke 12:31 – 32 – But rather seek ye the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Revelation is not Automatic
Galatians 2:11 – 13: But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. And other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation (hypocrisy). Many people think that we get given all of the revelation knowledge in our spirits when we become born-again or when we receive the Holy Spirit. If this were so, every preacher and teacher would teach the same things. We can even see from Peter’s dissimulation that he was in error concerning the salvation of the Gentiles at one time.

God’s Plan for Revelation
John 14:16 – And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him; but ye know Him, for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

God’s Plan for Revelation
John 14:25 – These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in m name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

God’s Plan for Revelation
John 16:12 – I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me; for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Preachers are not the foundation for receiving revelation knowledge. They plant and water, but it is God who gives the increase. It does not mean that we cannot be mentored or taught by our pastors and teachers. We absolutely can, and we are meant to. God provided those offices to help prepare us and build us up. However, above those offices, God provided the Holy Spirit as a Teacher for every believer. This was His way of assuring that each believer has access to the best of the best that He has to offer in revelation. He did not want to leave our path, our opportunity to receive everything God has for us to the chances and whims of other men There are all kinds of doctrines that float around in the Body of Christ. Cackling, and crowing, barking like dogs, gold-dusting, roaring all sorts of angel visitations that do not agree with the Word of God. The Word and the Spirit agree. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as the Teacher. The early church was utterly dependent upon the Holy Spirit for their revelation knowledge. The Jewish church at least had the Old Testament Scriptures to rely on as a foundation, however the Gentiles had to rely completely on the Holy Spirit.

Paul’s Source of Revelation
Galatians 1:11 – 12 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ

Paul’s Source of Revelation
1 Cor. 14: 1 – 18 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied; for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

Paul’s Source of Revelation
1st Cor. 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: Yet in the church, I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others ALSO, than ten thousand tongues in an unknown tongue.
10
Why Tongues? 1 Cor 2:9 – But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
11
Why Tongues? 1 Cor.2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Protection From Deception
Galatians 5:9 – a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. 1Jn 2:26 – 27 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.

Using the Gift 1st Cor. 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the understanding also.

Edifying Yourself with Tongues
Tongues for edification are for you and not for ministering to others You can pray in tongues any time you want You don’t have to pray loudly You can occupy your mind by reading the Word
