Lakes Alexis and Na’Kendrall
2
What is a lake? A lake is a huge body of water. A lake is bigger than a pond. Most lakes have fresh water, but some are saltwater. Fish can’t live in saltwater lakes. Lakes can be formed by glaciers.
3
Lake temperatures During the summer the water near the top is warmer and the water near the bottom is usually 20-30 degrees colder. In winter the top of the lake can freeze.
4
Pond or Lake? The difference between a pond and a lake is that lakes are deeper and don’t usually have plants in the deep water.
5
How people kill animals and plants in the lakes? Cattails and bulrushes live near the shore. Many of the plants can die because of the chemicals people put in the lake. When people kill the plants they also kill some of the animals, because the animals have to get food from the plants. Some of the animals that die are the great white pelicans and bullfrogs.
6
Some of the animals that live in the lakes I wonder do bullfrogs and the white pelicans live in lakes? Well, guess what? They do. Bullfrogs and white pelicans eat cattails and bulrushes. They try to stay far away from land to keep snakes from eating them.
7
Plants in the lakes Most of the plants that live in the lake are cattails and bulrushes. The plants live near the shore because there is more light on the top of the lake than the bottom. Most animals that eat the plants are fish and ducks. Most of those plants die in the winter. So fish go deeper in the lake and ducks travel to other lakes.
