The MCC is an annual campaign which gives state government employees the opportunity to donate directly to their favorite charities The campaign is administered by the Office of the Secretary of State The United Way of Central Maryland serves as the Operating Agency The Governor Chairs and Lt. Governor Co- Chairs the campaign. Secretary Lawlah is the assistant chair and Secretary Summers is the vice assistant chair who monitor the campaign

The MCC is a United Way campaign ; Although United Way is one of 930+ worthy charities for which you can donate, the Maryland Charity Campaign is not a United Way Campaign and they do not receive a fee for being our operating agency The MCC has a high overhead; Last year, our overhead was 13.5%; much lower than many of our charities Both the MCC and the charity I choose take an overhead; Because the campaign is free to all the charities, they do not take any “overhead costs” out of the money they receive through MCC

The charities only benefit central Maryland. There are charities that benefit all areas of the state, including national and international efforts. Some charities help specific areas while others have a broader range of coverage. I don’t make enough money to give. We hope that everyone will take this opportunity to give their fair share. Every dollar helps, and we are grateful for every donor.
