2 Bell work: Pretend you are a parent whose child has run away. How do you react? Do you punish your child for rebelling, or do you welcome your child back without punishment because you are glad he/she is back? Answer in paragraph form.

3 Make a T-chart on a piece of paper Write down everything you think you know about life in the south following the Civil War. Then, write down everything you would like to know about life in the south following the Civil War: What I knowWhat I want to know

4 Group Activity Each group member must record their answers on the paper provided. How should the United States treat the south following the Civil War? Do we punish them like the child that ran away, or welcome them back into the family? Answer the following 3 questions in your spirals: –What should be done with southerners who rebelled? –What should southern states be required to do to be re-admitted back into the Union? –What should be done for the newly freed blacks?
