Density – Sinking or Floating
3
Density Density is the amount of matter in a given amount of space. Density is the amount of matter in a given amount of space. –Density = mass ÷ volume Measured in kg/L g/mL, kg/m 3, or g/cm 3 Measured in kg/L g/mL, kg/m 3, or g/cm 3 The higher the density the more likely a thing will sink. The higher the density the more likely a thing will sink. The lower the density the more likely a thing will float. The lower the density the more likely a thing will float.
4
Mass is measured on an electronic balance in either kilograms or grams.
5
Volume is measured in two ways. 1 st Way Mathematical equations can be used. Mathematical equations can be used.
6
2 nd Way Volume is found by water displacement. Volume is found by water displacement.
7
So density is mass ÷ volume So if an object has a mass of 2 kg and a volume of 10 L. So if an object has a mass of 2 kg and a volume of 10 L. Density = 2 ÷ 10 = 0.2 kg/L Density = 2 ÷ 10 = 0.2 kg/L EX: EX: 0.2 kg/L 0.2 kg/L 10 10 2.0 2.0 -2.0 0
8
Understanding density 0.02 g/mL 1.0 g/mL 2.0 g/mL 3.0 g/mL The lower the density, it floats to the top. If its in between densities then its in between other objects of lower and higher densities. The higher the density, it sinks.

Monkey Ninja Street says, Density is important to think about especially when you think of me cutting the mass off someone with my monkey ninja sword! Density is important to think about especially when you think of me cutting the mass off someone with my monkey ninja sword!
