Purpose of Federal Work Study The purpose of FWS is to provide college students who are in financial need a chance to: LEARN useful skills that can be applied to their future employment. EARN money while pursing their degree. It is NOT designed for “getting paid to study.”

Federal Work Study Eligibility To be eligible for FWS, students must: 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 2. Meet UCF's Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). 3. Meet a need of at least $4,000 for the Fall & Spring or $2,000 for the Summer 4. Be degree seeking at UCF 5. Be enrolled at least half-time at UCF

Federal Work Study Eligibility (cont.) 6. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, eligible non-citizen, or citizen of the Freely Associated States: the Federated States of Micronesia and the republics of Palau and the Marshall Islands (for more information, please see the FAFSA) 7. Have a Social Security card or letter from the Social Security Administration (application receipt) Note: Packaging Criteria varies each year based on funding.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid ■ The FAFSA is required for federal, state, and institutional aid. ■ The FAFSA will determine your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). ■Students must reapply every year.

Definition of “Need” Federal Government’s uses a formula: COA - EFC = Need (Federal Need) Cost of Attendance (COA) – cost to attend college Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) - the amount students and their families are expected to contribute towards the student’s education.

Cost of Attendance (COA) Includes tuition & fees, books & supplies, room & board, personal expenses, and transportation. COA is subject to change every term.

Maintaining Eligibility for FWS In order to maintain FWS eligibility you must be: 1)Degree seeking 2)Enrolled in required number of UCF credits: 6 hours for undergraduates 4.5 hours for graduates 3 hours for summer graduates Note: Transient hours are NOT acceptable. Remedial hours are acceptable 3) Meet SAP

Program Eligibility Charts Program Eligibility Charts provide a list of aid programs, and the minimum hours required for each program.

Federal regulations require the University to establish Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress as a general eligibility requirement for financial assistance. A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress in a course of study regardless of whether the student previously received financial aid. SAP requirements include: Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for undergraduates and 3.0 cumulative GPA for graduates (not handled in SFA) Complete 70% of attempted hours Complete degree within 150% of program credit hour requirement Progress for current semester determines eligibility for following semester. FWS Program Requirements File the FAFSA (Priority date of March 1), and mark interested in Work Study. Be Degree Seeking Meet SAP Complete To Do List Complete Verification (if selected) Complete FWS contract each year before beginning work Submit to supervisor an Award Summary each semester Submit to supervisor a Class Schedule each semester Complete hiring packet Start Work & Get Paid!

FWS Limitations Work schedule and class schedule may not overlap Cannot skip class to go to work 20 hours/week is advised Cannot work more than 32 hours/week, even during school breaks Only one FWS job at a time If working in OPS and FWS at the same time, combined hours in both jobs may NOT exceed 32 hours/week and you must inform your FWS employer Students may NOT over utilize FWS award Limited starting pay rate

FWS Student Responsibilities Perform job duties satisfactorily Adhere to all the rules and policies established by employer Keep accurate time sheets and submit them in a timely matter Review the information on FWS contract and the Student Employment section of the Financial Aid Web site Read through the FWS Web site, especially announcements on the “Important Dates” page

FWS Community Service Workshop Workshop mandatory each aid year for off-campus Community Service FWS students Review Rules/Policies Discuss issues reported by employers Demonstrate how to use Job Connection Review Renewal Criteria Discuss required documents and contract. Note: Students must sign contract to receive Release Letter

FWS Job Interview Students should take the following items to their interview: Award Summary & Class Schedule from myUCF Voided personal check for Direct Deposit Social Security Card or Social Security Card Application Receipt Driver's License or Acceptable Form of Identification.
