Breakthrough Workout UKLO style practice problems aimed at pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3 Sarah Campbell
2
Breakthrough Workout problems are UKLO style questions designed to be accessible to pupils in Key Stages 2 and 3, and are likely to be most suitable for pupils in Years 5,6,7 and 8. Completed problems are not entered into any UKLO competition; rather they are designed as learning resources for use in lesson time and / or linguistics clubs. (There is, however, a Breakthrough Level competition, for those who would like to compete). Problems come complete with markschemes, commentaries and suggested prompt questions for teachers, so they wouldn’t necessarily need to be delivered by language specialists. Breakthrough Workout problems aren’t yet available publically, as they are still being developed by a UKLO team, but we have plenty of example problems and are looking for willing pupils and teachers to test them out! We are also looking for teachers and other interested individuals to join our Breakthrough Workout problem creation team, and hope by the start of the academic year 2015-2016 to have hundreds of problems available to download from the UKLO website. What is Breakthrough Workout?

Take a pack of example problems today and trial them with your pupils, then send us a completed feedback form so we can see whether we in the problem creation team are getting it right! Add your email to the mailing list sign-up sheet to register your interest / willingness to join our problem creation team. Templates, guidelines and support will be given to those creating problems, and we’d love to have as many people as possible on board. Following the trialling of some example problems this term, will be reviewing our existing problems, and then inviting people to start creating new ones in the New Year. How can I be involved?
