Selected Services Preventive Care – Immunizations – Well-women exams – Allergy immunotherapy Illness Care – Cold, flu, sore throats – Injuries – Mental health issues Epidemiologic Control – Prevention of outbreaks, etc.

Accessing Services Appointment-based services Usually available same or next day Not an Emergency Room Process – Call or walk-in to schedule or – Schedule on-line from home or Res. Hall

Payment for Services/Insurance Much like other medical providers Insurance Billing Provided by Billing Specialists Any deductibles, copays, or non-covered items billed to student account AFTER insurance adjudication complete Lab work is exception Those with special needs – No insurance – Sensitive issues – Referrals

Insurance Tips Call your insurance company to obtain a card for your student Know that Truman will not be on open lists of providers – Tell your company that if you are checking coverage Stop at a Pharmacy today and get an account set up

How You Can Help Insure immunizations are up-to-date & copy of records are sent to Health Center. Make sure to keep a copy. Make sure your student has their own insurance card, or a copy of the front & back Let them practice making their own appointments Help them to understand that when you are sick you may need to miss class to schedule an appointment Required Immunizations: 1.Measles (2) 2.Meningitis if living in university housing

Send them to school well-prepared Basic medications – Fever reducers – Cough, cold, allergy medications – Other regularly taken medications Nebulizers, peak flows if asthmatic Thermometer

Understand Federal Privacy Laws: SHC staff cannot provide medical information to anyone other than the patient when they are 18 years of age or over (or otherwise independent) without the written consent of the patient. Happy to share information when consent is given. We want to be your partner in caring for your student!
