AQA GCSE Pathways Both GCSE pathways can lead to Science A Level providing a grade B is obtained in Additional Science

Further Additional Science ( Triple Science) Science A and Additional Science examined in June 2016 – their Y10. 6 one hour exams, 2 ISAs (practical exam) Further Additional Science examined in June 2017 3 one hour exams, 1 ISA (practical exam)

Y9 Pre GCSE Science Most will do Science A course and be examined in June 2016 – their Y10. 3 one hour exams and an ISA (practical exam) Then Additional Science and be examined in June 2017 – their Y11 3 one hour exams and an ISA (practical exam)

BTEC Pathways These do not lead to a Science A Level

A few will do – one class BTEC Level 2 Applied Science Outcomes can be Distinction – equivalent to a A* at GCSE Merit - equivalent to a B at GCSE Level 2 Pass - equivalent to a C at GCSE Level 1 Pass - equivalent to a E at GCSE 1 hour exam covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics Assignment based module Biology Assignment based module Chemistry Assignment based module Physics

A few will do – one support class BTEC Level 1 Applied Science Outcomes can be Level 1 Pass - equivalent to a E at GCSE Assignment based module Biology Assignment based module Chemistry Assignment based module Physics

BTEC or GCSE routes will be determined by How the students do in the Y9 assessment in term 2 Teacher judgement as to which pathway is most suitable for your child. You will be informed by letter. Performance throughout Y9 is paramount – Has this student shown they will thrive at GCSE?

How to help your child Learn the syllabus Some questions are recall Some questions are application Practice past paper questions Highlight the importance of the ISA practical exam – you will receive a letter for this Support the afterschool and Easter school intervention classes.
