4 PROVIDING POST-SECONDARY INFORATION Scheduling College, Military, Internship Visits Processing and Distributing Scholarship Information Supplying ACT and SAT Information Providing State and Federal Financial Aid Programs Organizing Related Field Trips Providing Career Information Assisting Students and Parents with the Transition Process

5 HOW? For accomplishing guideways completion, schedule grade level, non SATP classes: 9 th : STEM, English 1, World Geography 10 th : World History 11 th : English 3 12 th : English 4 Grades may be issued for assignments. Career Center Manager schedules the classes (being flexible for rescheduling). Teachers send individual students who were absent on the date of the class visit with a deadline. Some preparatory work may be necessary to minimize the amount of time students are not in the classroom (resume worksheet, etc.) CCM may go to the classroom for a brief visit to provide information prior to the class visit.

6 Maintaining accurate scholarship and financial aid information Be sure to focus on upcoming deadlines. Advertise through announcements, newsletter, website (posting links), etc. Only display current material. For ACT and SAT testing, notify the students’ counselor if you are aware the students are from low income families. Waivers are provided for these students to test for free (a total of 2 times during their junior and senior years). Post the testing dates and include in your correspondence and communication. Test Prep opportunities should also be made available. 7 State and Federal funding Familiarize yourself with State and Federal funding for post-secondary education. Many families are not acquainted with the guidelines and process. www.riseupms.com (State Aid) www.riseupms.com www.fafsa.ed.gov (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov Host FAFSA nights and Financial Seminars for students and parents.

8 Field Trips Be aware of your district’s guidelines for field trips. The process may take as long as one month. Some companies pay for buses.

9 Careers Use CHOICES and other resources to locate information on careers. Different areas have different needs and opportunities which are always changing. Speak with local business representatives about positions, education required, pay scale, internship availability, etc. Be sensitive but realistic when speaking with students and parents.

10 You are a valuable asset to your school. You have the ability to create your own job security.
