Cold weather Warm hat Warm jumper/s Warm jogging bottoms Waterproof jacket Waterproof trousers Gloves Thick socks Walking boots/wellies Hot weather Shorts T shirt Sun hat Sun cream Thick socks Walking boots In all seasons we need to be prepared for changes in the weather!

Questions to ask yourself A running river Is this water clean? Is this water safe to drink? How can I make it safer? Can I wash in this water? Can I use this water for washing food and cooking? Shaded area Are these trees safe? How windy is it? Is anything likely to fall on me? Can the trees provide me shelter from the wind and rain or sun? Rocky Area Is this area safe? Are any of the rocks unstable and likely to fall on me from above or roll down a hill? Is the ground rocky? Are there any smooth parts to camp on? Will I be able to fix my text/shelter to the ground? Will the rocks provide me with shelter from wind/rain or sun? Animals Are these animals safe? Are they wild? Should I approach the animals? Are the animals free to roam where I want to camp? Are they likely to harm me? Am I in a farmers field and trespassing on private property? Gates and pathways Am I blocking a pathway or gate if I set up camp here? Is the gate/path used a lot? By whom? Am I too close to a gate/path that I will get disturbed through the night? Direction of the wind Which direction is the wind blowing? How strong is the wind? Can anything provide me with shelter from the wind? How can I secure my tent/shelter so that it wont blow away? Ground surface What sort of surface am I camping on? Is it soft/hard? Will it sink or slide? Is the area flat? Is the area reasonable clean and free from obstructions?
