Topics n USCS Datacenter n Overview of AES Options n Dial-Up Network n Leased Lines n Frame Relay/MQSeries n Value Added Networks n Vendors and Consultants n AESDirect
3
USCS Datacenter n Located in Springfield, Virginia approximately 15 miles from Washington, DC n Supports three major application groups: Commercial (AES) Administrative Law Enforcement n Four S/390 mainframe servers running OS/390 n 21 Terabyte (21,500 Gigabyte) direct access (Disk) data storage capacity n Process over 1.2 billion database requests per day
4
Overview of Customs’ AES Options Data Transport Options: n Remote Job Entry (RJE) n Network Job Entry (NJE) n MQSeries Communication Options: n Dial-Up Lines n Leased Lines n Frame Relay Network n Value Added Networks (VANs) * Internet via Census’ AESDirect
5
Modem AES Exporter IBM 3720/25/45 USCS Dial-Up Network 264 Toll-free Dial-Up Lines 14.4 kbs max speed Supports RJE only Session terminated after one minute of inactivity
6
Point to Point Leased Lines 100+ currently in use Exporter provides two 56 Kbs modems and two encryptors Supports: è RJE è NJE è MQSeries AES Exporter Modem IBM 3720/25/45 IRE Encryptor Modem IRE Encryptor
7
Trade Benefits: n Improved data throughput n Dedicated circuit to Customs n Not subject to toll-free dial-up modem saturation or session inactivity timeout n High level of security n Provides additional interface options Point to Point Leased Lines
8
Frame Relay/MQSeries
9
n IBM messaging technology n Sprint digital networking technology n Cylink encryption technology n TCP/IP based n Best solution for high volume/high performance, mission critical processing Frame Relay/MQSeries
10
Trade Benefits: n Best data throughput n Eliminates the overhead and design limitations of JES batch job processing n Engineered redundancy for high availability n Disaster recovery capability n Integrates into existing TCP/IP network n Integrated component of the Customs/ITDS infrastructure Frame Relay/MQSeries
11
Value Added Networks n Provide communication connectivity to Customs Datacenter n Provide data transformation services n Provide protocol conversion services
12
AES Vendors and Consultants n Provide end-to-end solution for filing AES documents with Customs n Reduce or eliminate Exporter involvement in AES communications issues n Support a wide variety of computing platforms and communication options n For a list of AES vendors see: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/aes/aes-vendors.pdf
13
AESDirect n Provided by the U.S. Census Bureau n Submit Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) information via the Internet n Does not require any special software or hardware investment n For more information, see: http://www.aesdirect.gov/
