17th National Radon Conference 2007 International Radon Symposium Sept 9-12, 2007 Jalbert/Pawel/Carter/IED ~ Draft Estimate ~ State Radon-related Lung Cancer Deaths 1-5 Draft Sep-07 These are unofficial preliminary draft estimates, and modest changes are likely as EPA refines the data and methodology. These estimates will be updated periodically. These estimates were derived using a methodology similar to that used in EPAs 2003 risk assessment ( www.epa.gov/radon/risk_assessment.html). www.epa.gov/radon/risk_assessment.html The data, methodology and other factors used in calculating the state estimates will be included in a short paper being prepared now. These estimates are intended to put the state specific risks in context to the national risk estimate (i.e., the 21,100 annual radon-related lung cancer deaths). States should also consider how to use these estimates strategically in their SIRG program and related risk reducing activities. Remember, the SIRG program has three general criteria for making State grant award decisions: (1) degree of risk; (2) funding/match; and (3) measurable results/performance.
