Cookie Activity 1 Choose your favorite cookie. Using a string, measure circumference of your cookie. Cut the string to the length of your cookie’s circumference.
3
Cookie Activity 1 Get into a groups depending on your choice of cookie. (All Oreos in the same group) Work together to see how many cookies you would need to line up, side by side, to have the length of your circumference string across their diameters.
4
Cookie Activity 1 Write down your results on your worksheet. Check with other groups near you. Did they get the same results?
5
Cookie Activity 2 Using a measuring tape, find the diameter of your cookie to the nearest mm. Record your results on your worksheet. Measure the circumference of your cookie to the nearest mm. Record your results.
6
Cookie Activity 2 Make a table using the results for the whole class. In the last column, write down the ratio of the circumference to the diameter for each cookie.
7
Cookie Activity 2 What do you notice? Write down your results on your worksheet.

Cookie Activity 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YokKp3pw VFc&safe=active http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YokKp3pw VFc&safe=active Now that we have the formula for the area of a circle, find the area of both of your cookies and record the results on your paper.
9
Cookie Activity 4 To find the volume of your cookie (or any cylinder) you simply multiply the area of the circle or base by the height. Find and record the volume of your cookies. Would these volumes be completely accurate? Tell me why or why not on your paper.
10
Cookie Activity 5 Now let’s look at the World’s Largest Cookie! http://www.immaculatebaking.com/goodies/t he-worlds-biggest-cookie/ http://www.immaculatebaking.com/goodies/t he-worlds-biggest-cookie/ Using the information given, what would the circumference and area of this cookie be?
11
Cookie Activity 5 How much would one square foot of this giant cookie weigh?
12
Cookie Activity 5 Here is another very big cookie. For the 100 th anniversary of the OREO cookie, Kraft created this giant OREO. It was 15 feet tall. What were the circumference and area of this crazy cookie?
