Key Stage One Statutory Assessments

When? The tasks can take place anytime between January and June The tests take place during May Teacher assessments are continuous throughout the year

Why? These assessments are to show us how much progress your child has made during KS1 To inform our future planning Take into account strengths and weaknesses of the child’s performance To inform OfSTED about how well children perform

What are they? Tasks and tests Reading task or test (comprehension) Two writing tasks including assessment of handwriting Spelling test which forms part of the writing score Speaking and listening Maths task or test Science teacher assessment only

How? In a familiar working environment We try to ensure they are as stress free as possible- the children may not even realise! With the class teacher All test materials are the same nationally and are marked to a common criteria Some papers are moderated externally Short sessions with adequate breaks and drinks and snacks to keep them going

How can you help? Continue to support your child with their homework Regular reading, including discussion about the text, such as plot, characters, making guesses about what might happen Support with learning weekly spelling Encouraging early nights Making sure they attend regularly and on time Practise mental calculations

What do they mean? We will include the results of their tasks in the report at the end of the year Children will be given a level from W,1,2c,2b,2a,to 3,(3 being the highest) The majority of children are expected to achieve level 2b at the end of the KS1(this is a national guideline)
