Renal colic, indications for admission BMJ August 12 Diagnostic uncertainty Age over 60 or known arteriopathy (risk of AAA) Inadequate pain control Fever >37.5 Solitary or transplanted kidney Suspected bilateral stones Impending renal failure Inability to arrange early investigation or urological assessment

Renal colic, investigations BMJ August 12 temperature Urine dipstick MSU FBC and renal function (CT KUB within 7 days)

Renal colic, advice from Mr Rogawski The majority of stones are in the lower 1/3 and tamsulosin increases the chance of expulsion (off label) Co-prescribe tamsulosin with diclofenac Contact radiology to request CT KUB if patient is not admitted
