What is Globalism? The emergence of global culture brought about by a variety of social and cultural developments such as: Internet Tourism Multinational corporations Olympics Consumerism Music

In other words… A global village, rather than isolated countries, makes the world like a small place where people in Australia can talk to a German friend on the phone while watching Federer play at Wimbledon in London, while eating a Krispy Kreme doughnuts

How does globalism effect Australia’s role in the world?
It is no longer possible to ignore the problems of other countries. The nations of the world are committed to helping each other when needed. Australia is a wealthy and peaceful country who is more than capable of assisting less fortunate people. There are times when we help other countries financially and as peacekeepers… That is why we are a part of the United Nations

What is the United Nations?
The United Nations was founded in 1945 at the end of WW2. An organisation made up of representatives of nations from all around the world. Its basic aim was to “maintain international peace and security and… to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace”. The United Nations is also committed to defending fundamental human rights and improving living standards throughout the world.

What is the purpose of the UN?
According to the charter, the UN has FOUR main purposes: to maintain international peace and security to develop friendly relations among nations to cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations

How is the United Nations structured?
The United Nations is not a world government and it does not make laws. Members of the UN, agree to accept the obligations of the UN charter, an international treaty that sets out basic principles of international relations. Provides the means to help resolve international conflicts and formulate policies. All members, regardless of wealth and political structure have a voice and a vote in this process. The United Nations has six main organs:
