Significant Safety Achievements- 5/13 Draft “EETD New Hire Safety Orientation” training slides and supervisor checklist were completed. EETD lab visitor safety orientation training slides were completed. A checklist for tour guides was also generated. Disposal of old samples/chemicals from labs 70-163, 70-201, 70-275, and 70-249 has started. –The old flammable gas cylinders formerly in use behind B70 were disconnected and removed. –Approximately 100 containers were identified in the 70-163 hood. An assessment of EETD lab area phone availability for use in emergencies was conducted. Results will be communicated. EETD has achieved an all-time low of only 59 pending training assignments at the end of May. Efforts will continue!

Short Term Safety Outlook- 6/13 Complete the “On the Job Training” self-assessment project with ESDR lab area PI’s. Deploy the EETD “New Hire Orientation” training materials to new employees and their supervisors. Complete the CATS items from the housekeeping self- assessment. Continue the lab cleanup efforts. A number of samples, old chemicals, and glassware have been identified for disposal. An EETD Safety Committee meeting will be held 6/6/13. Implement a new electronic lab inspection form for easier monthly lab area inspection documentation. Generate a “Lessons Learned” regarding the recent janitorial incident in 70-269. Participate in the LBNL emergency preparedness fair.
