What Materials do I need?
A computer with internet access A valid, working address MyMathLab Student Access code The textbook is available online in our MyMathLab section Math 0308 and 0310 use the same textbook at LSC-Tomball. If you took an 0308 course that used the text listed below, your MyMathLab account should still be valid and you will NOT need to purchase a new code. * How Much Time? 07/16/96 64 total hours OR 4 hours (or more) each week in Fall and Spring 7 hours (or more) each week in Summer Reading your book/course materials working odd problems in the book in MyMathLab working assigned homework sets (at home) in Angel studying materials (at home) taking calculator quizzes (at home) taking tests (at testing center) in math center for tutoring help (if needed) 2 hours study/1 credit hour 4 credit hour class = at least 8 hours of study each week Math 0306 meets for a total of 48 hours each term. This means you must spend a minimum of 3 hours each week working online using Angel resources, MyMathlab resources, taking your chapter tests at the assessment centers and tutoring in any of the math centers at any of the colleges. Remember, for every hour of class time you should spend a minimum of two hours outside of class reading your lessons, making notes, practicing concepts and doing your homework. Flexibility Every day Three times a week Twice a week Minimum required but no maximum Accrue time at your own pace Independent study allows for flexibility to meet your schedule. You can work on it every day, 3 times a week, twice a week or whatever works best for you. Just remember that you must spend a minimum of 3 hours a week online. * 07/16/96 Math 0310 Study Guide We will be covering the following in 0310 Integrated Review (Ch. 3), Sections 3.5, 8.1, 3.6, Integrated Review (Ch. 4), 4.5 Sections 9.1, 9.4, Integrated Review (Ch. 6), Section Chapter 7 Chapter 10 Sections 11.1 – 11.3 Review materials posted in Angel in the Learning Modules for each specific exam Do assigned homework in MyMathLab (at home) Take calculator “quizzes” in Angel (at home) Work the practice exams posted in Angel Tested on concepts, definitions, and processes In your text, the section titled “How to Read Your Math Text” gives you some very good suggestions that you should consider incorporating into your study habits if you aren’t already using them. You will be tested on concepts, definitions, and processes so make sure you understand all new concepts well before moving on. You will not cover all the material in your textbook. * 07/16/96 Preparing for Exams To prepare for the exams Read your text Review the materials posted by exam in Angel in the Learning Modules Work the odds in your book and check their answers Work the graded homework in MyMathLab For extra practice, rework homework problems...they change each time you access them Use Math Center resources Free Tutoring Manipulatives Study Aids Use online resources when doing homework in MyMathLab “Help me solve this” link “View an Example” link Lecture videos link Online textbook link “Ask my Professor” link – sends me a message and I reply to you. Set up a whiteboard session with me to help with tricky concepts Take tests when indicated You will take tests as indicated in in Angel and MyMathLab. Be sure to use the Math Lab resources such as free tutoring, manipulatives for those of you who are hands-on learners, and the various study aids. * 07/16/96 Taking the Exams Online in any approved Lone Star College Assessment Center must tell me which assessment center you prefer Not on list, no test Know the hours of operation for your chosen center Click here for testing centers and hours Photo ID required I need to know that it is you No id, no test Calculators are necessary All of your tests will be taken in an approved Assessment Center at any of the colleges. You will need to tell me which testing center you prefer. You will need to take a photo id with you each time you take a test. No id, no test. You need to make a score of at least 69.5% to show you have learned the material well enough to move on. If you score less than 69.5% you should review the material and then schedule a retake. * 07/16/96 Online tools in Angel for help from the instructor Discussion board post questions Whiteboard meet in a whiteboard room to go over exercises Need to set up a time in advance to meet Chatroom talk about tricky concepts There are several ways to get help through Angel as well. On the discussion board, you can post questions so other students can answer them. You can read and answer other students questions. I will answer questions if no one else does. You can arrange to meet me or other students on the whiteboard to go over exercises together. You ca also talk about tricky concepts in the chatroom. Second, because your final will be administered at Lone Star College testing centers using Angel and we will use the Angel for secure communication: Go to LSC-online to get your Angel login and password Click on the “Get Started” link Click on the “LSC-online login information” link If you have never logged in before, you can find your username and password using this form Login to Angel and look at the home page. Our course will show up after you take the mandatory Orientation provided through the Angel website. Be Goal oriented; don’t procrastinate, no excuses Verify understanding of concepts with instructor or tutor Do your homework MyMathLab definitely…for a grade Odds in the book at the end of each section for more practice!
