Waste to Worth o Clear focus: manure management o Development of Kiosk proposal sharpened our ideas: Awareness raising and learning at policy and technical levels Catalysing manure management improvement Capacity building, training Networking and practical collaboration o The focus is on realizing change, “ how do you make things work?”

3. Extension o Education and extension is important in all situations however levels of intervention will differ o Awareness creation and continuous maintenance of awareness new research/techniques, new entries in the industry at all levels – farmer, policy levels o The language barrier English is not the basic language everywhere Academic style or plain Traditional approaches with own definitions o Accessibility, internet is not everywhere o Regionalize in order to improve outreach.

4. The Manure Kiosk, the knowledge o A warehouse for practical methods, not a scientific repository; Will provide interpretation of science and practical information. Research results do not automatically apply in all situations; Cooperation between stakeholders is required to arrive at applicable and practical messages; It will not be exhaustive. o What brings about change? Need to understand why the technical knowledge is not applied. What extra knowledge is required? E.g. socio-economics –

5. Additional remarks o In some countries there is regulation however in some places legislation disjointed and ill-informed public policy o Show the value of manure: enabling infrastructure of manure and soil analyses, default data etc. o Find existing pilot projects to identify lessons learned. Pilots where success stories on the transition from waste to worth has taken place. o Approach: intervention at the front-end should not be ignored to optimize utilization of nutrients
