GENERAL PIPING – STEAM COILS
GENERAL GUIDELINES TRAP EACH COIL SEPARATELY. NEVER MASTER TRAP. AVOID MIXING HP AND LP STEAM COILS IN COMMON RETURN HEADER. DRAIN LP COILS TO RECEIVER and PUMP RETURN TO HP RETURN WITH PUMP TRAP. AVOID OVERSIZING STEAM CONTROL VALVES. VERIFY RANGE OF GENERAL SERVICE CONDITIONS AND STEAM/CONDENSATE LOADS. OVERSIZING CONTROL VALVES LEADS TO “HUNTING”, POOR RESPONSE AND POOR CONTROLABILITY. USE SPLIT RANGE OR 1/3-2/3 TYPE CONTROL VALVE OPTIONS FOR WIDELY VARYING LOAD CONDITIONS. DO NOT REDUCE CONDENSATE OUTLET PIPING AND AVOID ELBOWS. USE CROSSES/TEES TO HELP NON-CONDENSABLES TO KEEP MOVING. INSTALL AIR VENTS AND VACUUM BREAKERS WHENEVER POSSIBLE WITH FULL PORT ISOLATION VALVES TO ALLOW FOR SERVICING WITHOUT SHUTTING DOWN COIL OPERATION. EVALUATE RETURN HEADS AND BACK PRESSURES TO ALLOW FOR GRAVITY DRAINING OF COILS VS RETURNS AGAINST BACK PRESSURES. EVALUATE WATER HAMMER POTENTIAL. INSURE SHUTDOWNS OR RETURN AGAINST HEADS/BACK PRESSURES. UTILIZE PUMP TRAPS, SAFETY DRAINS, GRAVITY DRAIN OPTIONS AND/OR POSI-PRESSURE CONTROLLERS.

Secondary VB – Shutdown Only! SUGGEST FULL PORT ISOLATION VALVE HERE! (Normally OPEN) Maintain Full Condensate Outlet Line Size to Reducer! Air Vent X Primary VB MAINTAIN FULL CONDENSATE OUTLET LINE SIZE TO TRAP REDUCING “T”! REFER TO ARMSTRONG PUMP TRAP GUIDELINES FOR CLOSED LOOP OPTIONS! Some Valving/Fittings Not Shown for Clarity!
