CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. Both televisions and monitors can be made using CRT technology. CRT monitors are deeper and wider than their LCD counterparts. They also have more vivid colors and a longer life The major components of a CRT monitor are the fluorescent screen and electron guns.

Liquid Crystal Display A thin, flat electronic visual display uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. LCDs are more energy efficient and offer safer disposal than CRTs. Its low electrical power consumption enables it to be used in battery-powered electronic equipment. It is an electronically-modulated optical device made up of any number of pixels filled with liquid crystals and arrayed in front of a light source (backlight) or reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.

LED stands for Light Emitted Diode LED display has a background produce with LED instead of the convectional fluorescent LED Newest types of computer monitors on the market today.

Cathode-ray tube monitors were the first computer monitors out. CRT monitors contain millions of tiny red, green, and blue phosphor dots that glow when struck by an electron beam. A shadow mask is a thin metal screen filled with very small holes. Three electron beams pass through the holes to focus on a single point on a CRT displays' phosphor surface. The unwanted beams are blocked or "shadowed."

Next step in the line up of computer monitors. These monitors work by blocking light An LCD Monitor is made up of two pieces of polarized glass Electrical currents cause the liquid crystals to align to allow different levels of light to pass through to the second substrate and create the colors and images that you see. http://static.howstuffworks.com/flash/lcd-twisted.swf http://www.ehow.com/video_4973278_a-computer-monitor-work.html

Light Emitting Diode displays are the most recent line up of monitors. The Diode emits light when stimulated by an electrical current, which is known as electroluminescence. LEDs consist of red, green and blue elements, which combine to create the desired colors. Advantages of LEDs include lower power requirements Less-expensive manufacturing process, and improvements in contrast and color.

Since LED monitors are the newest of the monitors, they have the highest average cost. On average a LED monitor can cost from $200 to $400. A budget-priced LCD monitor can be purchased for about $100 to $200. The average CRT monitors cost as cheap as $50 to somewhere around $200. CRT monitors are the oldest of the three types of monitors therefore they are the cheapest.
