2 THE MAINSTREAM EDUCATION SYSTEM

3 VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING Based on the dual training principle: Alternation between school-based education and workplace training Qualifies students for labour market entry as skilled workers Duration: 2 to 5 years – the most typical being 3.5 to 4 years Different categories: Technical, Business, Social and Health Care, Agricultural, Maritime oriented programmes etc.

5 What creates growth and development in DK? Paradigm shift: Production is necessary for growth DK must live both knowledge and production Need skilled workers to transform knowledge to products and services 10’erne Dominating paradigm: DK to live on knowledge Other countries must take care of production 00’erne Politicians: The production community is dead 2001

6 The basic problems Too many unskilled workers Lack of skilled workers (well-qualified) In 2013 selects only 19% VET directly from elementary school Dropout, re-runs and double education is expensive Lack of employees with higher education Need for more apprenticeships

7 What should be addressed with the reform The choice must be made more manageable and less ultimate The choice must be perceived as the future Young people need guides to professional success and apprenticeship The creation of rational ways for adults The elementary school reform is a success factor

8 4 clear policy objectives 1.More students need to choose a vocational training directly after the 9th or 10th grade 2.More must complete a VET 3.Vocational training must challenge all students to become as skillful, they can 4.Confidence and well-being at vocational schools must be strengthened

13 Vocational training for Adults (EUV) Three VET pathways for adults (+25): Adults with at least two years of relevant work experience must have a standardized education without basic and without training Adults with relevant work experience or a previously completed education, which is not or only partially meets the requirement of two years of relevant work experience, must have a standardized training program for adults. Adults can also receive basic course Part 2. The internship period is a maximum of 2 years. Adults without relevant work experience or prior training must have Basic Course 2 (20 weeks). Praktik program's length will equal the training period for young people

14 Quality 4 measure8 Indicators More pupils should choose en VET directly after 9. and 10. class (25 % i 2020 og 30 % i 2025) 1) Number of pupils which choose a VET after 9. and 10. class More must complete a VET (60% i 2020 og 67 % i 2025) 2) Completion percentage Vocational training must challenge all students to become as skillful as they can. 3)Number of students at EUX level 4) Number of students who have taken courses at experts' level 5) Number of students who have completed the talent trail 6) Employment rate Confidence and well-being at vocational schools must be strengthened 7) Measures of student satisfaction 8) Measures of company satisfaction

16 Apprenticeships 77.633 students currently at a main course. (-3%) 5.378 students seeking apprenticeships. (+ 2%) 7.829 students are enrolled in school practice or practical training centers. (+ 8) The last 12 months have been signed 45.352 (-5%) apprenticeships.

17 PC Practical training Centers Practical training Centers - an alternative to a full practice agreement. Practical training Centers ensure that students gets a full education. Companies provide shorter training periods, called Short Agreements (SA) or "pieces", where education targets agreed with the company. Remaining practical training conducted at the practical training Centers (PC) The aim is to complete the program with a remaining agreement at the a company. (RA) SA PC SARA
