Financial Aid Office WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID? Federal and state government funds in the form of grants, loans, and work-study to help finance your education. My family income is too high to qualify for financial aid! Financial aid is determined by more than just income. It is recommended that all students apply for financial aid! Myth:

Financial Aid Office WHEN SHOULD I APPLY? 2012-2013 FAFSA becomes available January 1 st March 15 th priority date (for students with high need) Request PIN (Personal Identification Number) for student and parent at www.pin.ed.govwww.pin.ed.gov File the FAFSA by March 15 th priority date, if possible, to be considered for limited funded financial aid programs Check email frequently as we may request additional information that must be completed in a timely manner!

Estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) (Determined by UW Oshkosh) – Expected Family Contribution (EFC) (Determined by FAFSA) __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ = Financial Need *Total Financial Aid awards cannot exceed COA and need based awards cannot exceed financial need (outside scholarships may be an exception) Not all financial aid programs require Financial Need

Financial Aid Office FUNDING AT A GLANCE Scholarships & Grants Awarded funds that typically do not require repayment Federal Work-Study Awarded funds earned through part-time employment Loans Awarded funds that are borrowed and are to be paid back, sometimes with interest (available to both students and parents)
