Mummification: Purpose of mummification? The internal organs (stomach, liver, intestines, lungs) were removed. The body was stuffed and covered with natron (i.e. sodium carbonate). It was cleaned, stuffed again and oiled. It was wrapped with linen and clothes and placed in two coffins.
